Hi everybody,
I’m not sure if this is still relevant for somebody, but I’ve recently tried to get some old games running on windows 10, including Anno 1503.
I tried the solutions here but I still experienced a relatively low frame rate, especially when playing in 1280×1024 resolution.

I think I found a solution for it though that I wanted to share 🙂
For another old game (Star Trek Birth of the federation) there is a tool called «DxWnd», I’m not really sure what it specifially does but I assume it’s some kind of DirectX Emulation.
Since I had it for that other game already, I just put the Anno1503startup.exe in it and left all the settings as they were and it works perfectly fine without any lag on the highest resolution 🙂

Here a quick guide on what I did:
1. I downloaded the dxwnd_fullscreen.zip here (at the end of the first post, scroll down a little):

2. I extracted it to my Anno 1503 installation folder, so there is a new folder named «dxwnd Fullscreen» in it. I guess the location doesn’t really matter.
3. I started the dxwnd.exe that is in that folder.
4. There is a long list of settings in it already for that other game, i just right-clicked the top one (Birth of the Federation) and selected «modify».
5. I changed the Name to «Anno 1503″(optional) and Path and Launch to «InstallationDirOfAnno1503\1503Startup.exe» (see image)
6. I left all the other settings as they were and clicked «OK».
7. I right-clicked the just modified entry and selected «run».

That’s it 🙂 I changed the resolution in-game to 1280×1024 and it works fine without lags

8. When closing dxwnd you should click «yes» to save the modifications you made. You’ll have to run it through that tool every time so you might consider creating a short cut.

Maybe this helps somebody 🙂

I used the Anno 1503 «Königsedition» DVD I bought a few years ago, not the GOG version, I hope it works with it as well.

I recently installed Anno 1503 as the disk game would no longer work on Windows 10. I have been happily playing for several days with minor hick-ups but nothing terrible.

Today the game refuses to start. I get the error message that «15503 has stopped Working». Has anyone else encountered This??

Thank you! Almost worked perfect! Only that with the dxwnd-settings for Birth of the federation the minimap didn’t work for me. I had to enable «flip emulation» in the «DirectX»-tab in dxwnd for everything to work properly (no lag with 1280 x 1024 resolution + working minimap).

Anno 1503 and Windows 10 — Program won’t start

I’ve just downloaded one of my favourite games from years ago Anno 1503 from UbiSoft. When I try to launch it from UPlay it tries to start up, but crashes every time. Has anybody had a similar experience and can give some direction on how to resolve it? Could it be that his game is not compatible with Win 10? I’ve been through the system and application logs and there is nothing being logged.

Mine runs fine on windows 10. But I’m not running Uplay either. I run mine with GOG.com. Plus I didn’t even have it installed on windows 10. I just click on my windows 7 install and it runs. That is right I just went to where all my games are installed on a hard drive. Went in and click on the Startup.exe and the game runs. Plus it is running through windows 10 and no Compatibility Mode. It is more likely Uplay that is causing the problem.

Uplay is the only one that I have problems with. If I reinstall windows all I have to do is run the game interface on all other game companies. Point to where the games are at they do a updates and I’m running again. Now on Uplay this will never happen. I have to reinstall all the game again and jump through hoops to make things work.

One game that everytime I went to run it after I reinstalled was 2070 with deep ocean. You had to jump through hoops to get the deep ocean to run. Well I figure it out. I had the deep ocean, but Uplay in a way never put into my account. Plus we have had many threads on that problem deep ocean loop. Well what I did was buy deep ocean again and now it works fine. So I two copies of deep ocean one that will not run and one that does.

Just looked for an answer to getting this game running on windows 10. Seems this issue hasnt been addressed. I’d like to get it running, anyone??

NoDVD (NoCD) для русской версии игры «Anno 1503: Коллекционное издание» от компании «Новый Диск».

В России много хороших игр, которые по вине российской компании «StarForce», невозможно запустить на «Windows Vista», «Windows 7», «Windows 8», «Windows 10» и на «Windows 64bit», одной из таких игр является русская версия «Anno 1503» («Anno 1503: Коллекционное издание», «1503 A.D.: The New World», «Anno 1503 Gold or Gold Edition») от издателя «Новый Диск».

Попыток адаптировать NoDVD (NoCD) от зарубежных версий игры под русскую версию было много, но все они неудачны, и после установки неправильной «таблетки» игра работает некорректно, а именно:
— игра, периодически, вылетает;
— на уровнях и картах не срабатывают скрипты, из-за чего, с карты пропадают или не появляются города, корабли и задания;
— из игры пропадает часть текста и функций;
— из игры пропадает озвучение и музыка;
— и прочее.

Но рабочий NoDVD, для этой версии, все же есть (по крайней мере я играю, и все работает), его собрал и выложил пользователь, который скромно именует себя Graf_Nosferatu, на torrent сайте «NNM-Club.ru» (ныне «NNM-Club.me»), на странице с игрой.

Для тех у кого этот торрент-ресурс заблокирован, да и просто для коллекции, выкладываю этот NoDVD здесь.

Для установки, распакуйте, с заменой, все файлы из архива в корневую директорию игры, но помните, чтобы все работало, этот NoDVD необходимо ставить на чистую лицензионную версию игры, если у вас RePack, с уже установленной «таблеткой», или вы, до этого, уже ставили другие NoDVD, игра, скорее всего, будет работать некорректно.

Anno 1503: The New World – компьютерная видеоигра в жанре градостроительного симулятора и стратегии в реальном времени, действия которой происходят в период колонизации европейцами земель Америки.

Над созданием игры совместно работали студии Max Design и Sunflowers Interactive.

Сюжет

Начало XVI века сопровождалось величайшими географическими и научными открытиями, связанными с колонизацией Нового Света. Вы будете отыгрывать ключевую роль в этом процессе.

В начале кампании можно выбрать одну из фракций, после чего следует привести ее к экономическому и военному могуществу на островах-колониях. А для этого предстоит противостоять остальным государствам, которые стремятся ровно к тому же – следовательно, ждите жесткой конкуренции.

Игровой процесс

Вышедшая в 2003 году Anno 1503: The New World, обладала внушительным геймплейным функционалом, которые помогли ей завоевать многомиллионную армию фанатов. Среди главных отличительных черт проекта можно отметить следующее:

возможность строительства собственных колоний, десятков типов зданий и юнитов;
исследование новых технологий, что позволит вашей фракции получить существенные бонусы и преимущество над противниками;
множество островов, на которых раскиданы десятки видов ресурсов;
ведение торговли, дипломатических отношений и войны с другими фракциями;
на огромной карте существуют четыре климатические зоны – погода также влияет на жизнь поселения и на уровень производства.

Поскольку выход Anno 1503: The New World произошел более пятнадцати лет назад, говорить о высоком уровне графики нет смысла. Для 2003 года – это был действительно прорыв, а сейчас – проект для настоящих фанатов серии и жанра в целом.
