ELAN WBS Fingerprint Sensor Error Code 10

Recently my laptop started giving me an error code 10 on my fingerprint reader on my laptop. I have tried uninstalling (including removing driver files), enabling/disabling, updating the driver from multiple sources, removing all other plugged in USB devices, and ensuring Windows Hello is enabled. None of this is working. I am at my wits end here, and this is very upsetting. If anyone can suggest a viable fix, it would be much appreciated, and thank you. I am using an Acer Spin 3.

Thank you Dan. I did go ahead and try this, as one of the methods I had not yet done. It seems that none of these did the trick. For now, I have kind of given up, as everything else is working OK. Actually, I think this happened one time before, and I was able to get it working by reloading the drivers from scratch (didn’t work this time). I know, short of a complete system reset, there might not be much I can do, although I have another computer that the Bluetooth wasn’t working on it for a while, and then suddenly just started working again, so who knows? Thanks again though, as one would figure one of these tricks would do it.

ELAN Tech Fingerprint sensor stopped working with Windows update 1803

I am a pretty happy user of Acer S5-371 laptop.

I almost gave up on Fingerprint sensor after I installed the Windows Update 1803.
I have done all recommended troubleshooting (reboot, reinstall driver, enabled biometrics in Windows and BIOS. ).
Then I decided to roll back the update and fingeprint sensor started working.

The problem is that Windows will at some point «decide» to install the update again by itself. And then the whole story will repeat.

Solution:
Can ACER somehow provide a new driver for fingerprint sensor?

The version there is 1.6.10.1102. I installed this newer version and all I had to do was delete the device in device manager and rescan for changes to install the new driver properly. In my case, I have an Acer Aspire R5-571TG, so I suspect it will work for just about any of their laptops with this reader.

Yes, Acer does have updated drivers. No, they won’t go back and update their support pages with it. I have been less than pleased with their support and quality requiring ME to pay shipping to repair a laptop that had a manufacturing defect. It’s a shame, too, since I used to recommend Acer to all my clients.
