Five PCs in my team use wubi to automatically install xubuntu and get error warnings:

what is the reason? How to solve these problems?

Wubi version: Wubi for Ubuntu 19.04 (rev. 336)
xubuntu version: xubuntu-18.04.2-desktop-amd64.iso

What kind of PCs do you use (model, UEFI firmware/BIOS version) ? Is Secure Boot enabled ?

But issue should not affect Xubuntu 18.04.2 from xubuntu-18.04.2-desktop-amd64.iso. Are you sure that you install Xubuntu 18.04.2 with Wubi for Ubuntu 19.04 (rev. 336) ? Automatic download is Xubuntu 19.04 for wubi1904r336.exe .

Wubi1904r336.exe automatically downloads xubuntu 19.04, and the use result is the same as the fault prompt.

I just had this issue with Zorin OS onto an HP Stream. I solved my mystery with no help of the internet so I thought I’d post my solution somewhere.

I turned Secure Boot off. Disable it. It loaded with no issues after that.

It is a general solution if a boot loader does not support Secure Boot. If a boot loader supports Secure Boot, you can also try to import the key which was used to sign the boot loader for Secure Boot. For Wubiuefi, see MoKManager

So that issue should be already solved for Wubiuefi.

@qixuchang If it is not solved, I need more information. Besides the Secure Boot issue, you also reported an issue which has been known since 18.10. That issue depends on the used ISO only. Currently, there are reports for the Ubuntu ISO of 18.10, 19.04 and 19.10. Maybe, some other ISOs are also affected e.g. Xubuntu ISO for 18.04.2. But there has ever been a workaround. Does the workaround e.g. from here (user confirmation («Continue») is necessary for new questions) solves the issue ?

@hakuna-m My bios mode is uefi and secure boot state is off. But I am getting this error number 2 mentioned in the main question. What should I do?
Do I need to create some kind of efi partition or like that? Like in the hdd I am installing ubuntu into, I need to create a small partition for EFI? mentioning that already created a partition of 30 gbs for installing ubuntu which is just a primary partition. And so do I need to create another EFI partition?

Using Windows 10 and trying to install ubuntu 18.04.3 LTS with your WUBI ubuntu 18.04.2

And this is one of the known problems. But can’t seem to find the solutions of the known problems in the release notes. Can you please help?

As I wrote above the workaround for the known issue is to skip user confirmations by selecting «Continue».

Ubuntu 16.04 no longer booting on Lenovo Y70 Touch Error «Verification failed: (0x1A) Security Violation

I have Ubuntu installed as the sole operating system on a Lenovo Y70 touch laptop. It was version 16.04. After a recent update, the system would not start. Instead, I am presented with a blue screen saying verification failed: (0x1A) Security Violation. I can’t fire up a terminal, boot from a live USB or use an alternate screen.

I went into the BIOS and attempted to disable UEFI. But the change won’t stick. It always reverts to a UEFI boot.

I don’t have a recovery disk, and Lenovo won’t provide a way to revert to Windows. Has anyone come across this problem before?

Turn off secure boot in the BIOS/UEFI. Also try to save settings or press F10 and choose yes at the save dialog.

Edit: On a second thought this could be solved by signing/trusting the bootloader, kernel and kernel modules for UEFI Secure Boot too.

But to do this one has to find a live media which will still boot the machine. Then create a chroot environment, do all the complex work needed to prepare a secure boot. Then save the results to the internal file system.

Then reboot and see what happens. If issues arise (yes there may be problems even if you have related experience) you have to start it over and check what went wrong.

This may take days or weeks to solve it this way. If you wish to learn by this it may be worth doing, otherwise it’s just a waste of time.

I guess the difficulty is way beyond intermediate level sysadmin skills.

Nevertheless, I’ve found some nice Ubuntu based documentation how to do the secure boot part, in case you chose to try.

I had successfully installed Linux Mint 20 on my new HP Pavilion Gaming laptop (all thanks to the forum members here). While playing around, I ended up wiping the Linux Mint installation off and had to re install. This time I get the «Verification failed: (0x1A) Security Violation» error every time I boot from the USB. It tells me to load a hash key. I do that, and it still fails.
Tried different USB Sticks, re downloaded the iso, different laptop, but I still get the same error.

Note: Ubuntu 20.4.1 installs just fine. But Linux Mint 20 won’t. The screen does not show the «Enroll MOK Keys» option. But it does with Ubuntu.

I really badly need to get Linux Mint back on my laptop. Any pointers would be great.

Tried to install Debian just to see if I get the same error, but nope. Seems to happen only with Linux Mint. Any help would be great.

Secure Boot Live USB — Security Violation due to recent SHIM updates

I had to search, trying to work out what happened, and how to fix it. Booting Mint from live USB worked perfectly until this week. This problem may be specific to my hardware, but others may have a similar problem, so I needed to post this.

CONDITIONS
— Secure Boot ACTIVE (no legacy)
— The internal hard drive already has Linux Mint 20 installed, with recent SHIM updates.

SYMPTOM
— When Secure Booting a live USB (Linux Mint 20), UEFI no longer accepts its signature/keys:
Verfication failed: (0x1A) Security Violation
— Trying MOK enrollment always results in:
Verfication failed: (0x1A) Security Violation

As I understand it, recent shim updates are the cause of these issues, and I think Debian handled it quite well:

To verify this, I loaded up a USB with the latest Debian 10.6 net install, and it secure booted immediately!
