handyPrint v5.5.0

handyPrint™ v5 is a 64 bit Mac OSX application that allow you to print from your iPods, iPads and iPhones on printers that do not support the AirPrint protocol. v5 has been re-designed as a standard application similar to the ones you would find in the Apple App Store. You simply copy it to the Applications folder and run it from there. Once you turn the application switch to ON it will start on its own every time you login to your user account. No need to manually start the application.

handyPrint v5 has raised the minimum donation to $5 and we are giving free licenses to anyone who already donated $5 or more. We are also crediting your past donation towards this. Since most customers already donated between $5 and $10, we expect most of you will get a ‘free’ upgrade. handyPrint v5 brings handyPrint to OS X Sierra 10.12.

handyPrint v5 does not come as an installer anymore. Instead, to install v5 simply download and open the DMG file.

1st, remove the old handyPrint version by right-clicking on the icon in the System Preferences panel and selecting remove:

Next, open the handyPrint DMG file and drag the application icon to the Applications folder as shown below:

Once you have copied handyPrint to the Applications folder you should go ahead and remove the previous version by opening the System Preferences, right click the handyPrint icon and select ‘Remove “handyPrint” Preference Pane’.

Now go to the Applications folder and run handyPrint from it. You may get the following warning dialog:

Simply click Open to allow the application to run. Click on the ON/OFF switch to activate handyPrint:

Depending on your security configuration the following dialog may be displayed. Simply click Allow and handyPrint will start running:

If you have been a past user of handyPrint v3 or v4 you can recover your v5 license by clicking the “License” button under the ON/OFF switch:

Click on the “Recover License” tab:

then click the link to recover your license:

Enter the Paypal ID you used for your original donation and click “Recover my license”. Follow the instructions.

When you receive your license simply click the “Enter License” tab and enter the license info you received by email.

Click the “Save License” button. Make sure handyPrint can connect to our license server during this process. You should now be done. You may now turn handyPrint back ON if it is OFF.

handyPrint™ v3.1 is a 64bit (core 2 duo or better) Mac OSX application that allow you to print from your iPods, iPads and iPhones on legacy printers that do not support the AirPrint protocol. handyPrint™ is the new name for our application that used to be called “AirPrint Activator”. We have decided to rename the application to avoid using the Apple trademark ‘AirPrint™’. With the 3.1.1 release, we simply renamed the application handyPrint™.

This version is compatible with iOS4.3, iOS5 & iOS6 and will run on OSX Snow Leopard (10.6), Lion (10.7) and Mountain Lion (10.8). It is a complete re-write of the previous version 2.

Where is “AirPrint Activator”? Do I need a new license?

Don’t worry, handyPrint™ is the same application with a new name and a new icon. Your current license of “AirPrint Activator” will work just as well in handyPrint™.

How do I update? Do I need to uninstall the previous “AirPrint Activator”?

Simply download handyPrintInstaller and click “Update”. It will take care of cleaning up all the previous files. You won’t even need to enter your license again.

Local and Networked printers:

V3.1 of handyPrint™ run on your Mac to share local and network attached printers to an iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch running iOS 4.2 or newer. handyPrint™ make all locally shared printers available via AirPrint. If it is shared by your Mac it will be advertised.

Donationware and Safe:

There are other solutions out there but they either cost a lot of $$$. AirPrint Activator only requires you to make a small donation.

Remember, only donate if the application is working for you during the trial period. There is no point in donating if the application is not working satisfactorily.

Menubar integration:

A new feature of handyPrint™ v3.1 is the new Menuba integration:

It will give you visual feedback on which printers are advertised for AirPrint. It will also provide you with a quick option to open the application Preference Pane.

Installation:

After the installation is completed you may (or may not) get a screen like the following when turning AirPrint ON:

Simply click “Open”. This is an annoying but expected OSX behaviour. OSX is telling you that the handyPrintDaemon helper application that was downloaded via a browser (Safari in this example) is starting in the background. This should only happen once.
