A problem caused this program to stop interacting with Windows.
Welcome to the Microsoft Answers Community!
This can be caused by an add-on that isn’t compatible with Internet Explorer. You can test this with Internet Explorer (No add-ons):
· Click the Start Orb
· Click All Programs
· Click Accessories
· Click System Tools
· Click Internet Explorer (No add-ons)
Test to see if you get the same crash message in No add-ons mode. If not you just have to identify which add-on was causing the crash.
· Click Tools
· Click Manage Add-ons
· Click Toolbars and Extensions
· Under Show: click All add-ons
· Click any add-on
· Press CTRL + A on your keyboard (this should select all add-ons)
· Click Disable all
· Click Close
· Close Internet Explorer (No add-ons)
· Open Internet Explorer
Now all add-ons are disabled in Internet Explorer, next step is to enable them one by one.
· Click Tools
· Click Manage Add-ons
· Click the first disabled add-on
· Click Enable
· Click Close
· Surf a few pages
· Close Internet Explorer
· Open Internet Explorer
When Internet Explorer opens again, test to see if you get the same crash message. If not then the add-on you enabled is good to stay. Repeat the Manage Add-ons process for the next disabled add-on and continue until the crash returns. Then the last add-on enabled will need to be disabled/uninstalled/updated to avoid further problems.
Hope that helps, look forward to hearing back from you.

Basically Windows Explorer is hanging. When I click on the start button in Desktop mode, Windows Explorer crashes and then restarts fine.
